I’m so excited to be able to share this video of my performance of Anthony Paul Garcia’s work for amplified clarinet and electronics, “Slow Burn”. Originally composed for recorder player Lucia Mense in 2014, “Slow Burn” was updated and revised for clarinet in 2016. The prerecorded speech, which was written by Anthony in 2011, is manipulated in various ways throughout the piece. Sometimes it is clear and forward, other times muttering, indecipherable, and grainy. The clarinet sound is also manipulated throughout the piece with filters, resonators, delays, looping devices, and, most significantly, a pitch bending pedal foot pedal.
“Slow Burn” was performed on March 5, 2016 at the Museum of Art, Design, and Architecture at the University of California, Santa Barbara as part of Dr. Garcia’s final PhD recital.
